Ziad's Birthday Present

I am republishing this blog as it was previously blocked.  Something wrong with my mask? ???? The mask is bead loomed after a design by Margie Deeb

Birthday Presents

I managed to complete a couple of birthday presents. The horned seed bead bracelet was inspired by Kate McKinnan's book. The throw is a combination of knitting and tunisian crochet with a crocheted heart motif

I'm Back! !

As I don't really know what to do to update the website www.nuziart.com I have decided to go back to my blog and try again. I still don't know what happened to some of my blogs and why they were blocked but I will try again. I was not able to restore the blocked blogs!!!

Homemade beading loom

Large beading looms are either expensive /unavailable here.  Get a sturdy shoebox add a base (in this loom I used a shelf covered in material) large bolts for threading and screws to wind the thread securely. Two sticks to keep the shape sturdy and wire or strong string to hold it all together!!

Origami Koi

Origami koi is fiddly.  After a few frustrating practice pieces I am almost there! One more practice and I should be able to go onto "quality" paper!!  After a lot of searching and trials I found the following post the best on YouTube Origami Koi Fish Instruction by Kade Chan  parts 1&2

Russian leaf beading

Success after a few attempts. There are tutorials online but it does take a while to get the hang of the various techniques and I adjusted it my way a bit as well!!!

I have AT LAST completed the entrelac shawl - it took forever so half is brick stitch!  I have beaded a box but has turned out very crude and am starting on a new one.

I see its been exactly a year since I had anything to say!!!  Amazing how time flies by and scary!  Well It has been a long time since I painted - I just cant do it.  I set up in many different places - even buy stuff but to actually put paint to paper has been impossible.  So today I have come to a decision - for now anyway - I like making things instead.  I have done a lot of crochet, beading and origami which has caused a lot of pain in my hands but that doesnt stop me.  Maybe during summer I will try again to paint - I would really love to do it again, I miss it so much.  Anyway I have discovered entrelac and double knitting.  At first they seemed so daunting and it took a long time to actually get started.  When I eventually did I discovered that once you get the hang of it, it is really easy!!!

Seed beading

I have also been doing some pottery.  I have decided to make shawls (hence the entrelac knitting) and am making pins from clay.  Its an experiment of course - so I have no idea if it will work.  They went into the kiln for bisques firing today so hopefully by the end of the week (glazing) they will be done and hopefully a success.

Success or not I will put a picture

Scarecrow

I had to make the scarecrow - crochet with some knitting as I am not that good at knitting.  The pattern was an old one from the original magazine - this is what it is supposed to look like and this is how it turned out to be!

What a weekend!!

What a weekend! Started off nicely then we had the most awful storm – strong winds – the sky turned orange then almost total darkness with the thunder clouds and then very heavy rain that flooded the garden and must have caused so much damage across the country. Yesterday another thunderstorm came with hailstones! And to round everything off – the woman problems – it was so bad you just go into such a deep depression and want to disappear….bloody hormones….. Then the volcano in Iceland spewed ash over Europe – my brother is now stuck in Paris (lucky him!).  and father in hospital for an angiogram and stend - the nurses taking good care of him so his recovery is good!

Anyway I finished a very simple blouse in a day with crochet border (to hide any mistakes!!!!!) My art course arrived – botanical illustration – very disappointing really – it was just a folder that took 3 weeks to get here and didn’t look very exciting – so haven’t really read it yet! Must make the effort.

That's Chang getting quite irritated .....

A 'week' of exploration

Last week was a holiday so I decided to explore Kuwait as I have not been around for many years. First I went to my favourite area Doha where they build Dhows (the old wooden boats). What a shock! They were gone and all that was around was warehouses and what was left of any beaches were disgusting and black from pollution. Never going there again! All in all I saw Kuwait in two days; north to south; border to border. There was nothing to see except rubbish - no beaches left - all taken by chalet and no where to go except shopping malls!!!!!!!!!!!!
